Connect a till
- In your web admin, open POS Devices, pick your store and generate a pairing code.
- In Urban Market POS, tap Scan to connect and scan the QR — or paste the connection code instead.
- Staff sign in with their own PIN. One till can be shared by the whole shift.
No Urban Market shop? Tap Use an offline licence to run the till on its own with a licence key. To open a shop, start at Sell on Urban Market.
When the internet drops
Keep selling. Sales made offline wait on the device and are sent when the connection comes back. Account shows how many sales are waiting to sync, with a Sync now button once you are back online.
Do not disconnect the device while sales are waiting. Disconnecting signs the till out, and any sales not yet synced are lost — the app warns you before it does.
Staff and PINs
- Add someone: Settings → Staff & PINs → Add staff. A PIN is 4 to 6 digits.
- Forgotten PIN: the owner opens the person in Staff & PINs and gives them a new one.
- Change your own PIN: Account → Change PIN.
- Someone has left: open them in Staff & PINs and tap Remove.
Printing receipts
Receipts are laid out for 80mm thermal paper and print through your phone or tablet’s own print dialog — connect the receipt printer to the device first, and it appears there. Settings → Test print shows the layout before a customer is waiting. A customer who would rather not have paper can be sent the receipt instead: Send receipt at the end of a sale.
Taking M-Pesa
At checkout, choose M-Pesa and Send STK: the customer gets a payment prompt on their own phone and enters their PIN there. The money goes to your shop’s own Safaricom till; the app records that it was paid and the M-Pesa reference. Nobody at the till ever needs the customer’s M-Pesa PIN.
Orders from your website
Your shop has its own storefront on Urban Market, run from the same app. While online payments are being set up, you can still take its orders on WhatsApp: turn it on in Settings → Website orders.
A lost or stolen till
Give everyone who used it a new PIN in Settings → Staff & PINs, then write to us straight away with the shop’s name.
